YES! I've met my first weight loss goal. I didn't have a chance to weigh myself Thursday morning, but as of this morning I'm back down to ten pounds lost. Except for the small box of KarmelKorn last night (hey, I had to reward myself for working on a holiday!), I've been keeping the daily calories between 1,400 and 1,600. It's surprisingly easy. According to the FitDay graph, I'm way ahead of where I need to be to meet my next goal (25 total pounds lost by my birthday, Oct 2).

Today is hike day. Still not sure where we are hiking, but a four-hour hike should burn roughly 2,000 calories. Unless I eat an entire pizza tonight, I should have a good start on losing another 1.2 pounds before next weekend.

The Good News: I found my tripod! Apparently it's been in the back of my Jeep since the last camping trip last summer.

The Bad News: As I'm running out the door to take pics of the Waterfront fireworks, I notice the plastic thingie that screws into the camera and then snaps into the tripod is gone. So the tripod is useless.

I tried to take some pics from the top of a parking garage anyway, but with 4 and 5 second exposures they turned out like crap, even when propped against something stable. If I could remember how to manually set the camera exposure I probably could have salvaged a pic or two. Looks like it's me and Into the Wild tonight.

We did get off work at 3pm though. When I take my holiday on the 14th, do you think everyone will get sent home early? I think not! Plus it was a productive day with the office being near empty, and everyone who had the day off were treated with a gloomy, rainy day.

So overall, not a totally bad day.

Last night my friend/date/whatever was on his way to my house, and he isn't used to the road yet, and there was a stop sign at a fork in the road and he ran through it and into the woods. He totaled his car and was sooo close to hitting a tree and dying. It was insane. He called me and I got my mom to ride with me, and his sister and mom showed up shortly after. It was so scary. But, he is a trooper and he and his sister came to visit me and then today he spent the whole day with me. My best guy friend and him went to my papa's with me, and then we took my friend home and we went to my brothers house where no one said anything to us and it was awkward and everything, so we came back to my house and watched a movie.

9th ward.

Would you like to know how the citizens of the 9th ward were treated tonight? The harbor police and military police, prevented us from access to the river.

Mazant and Chartres has always been a tradition. We go to the river to watch the fireworks.

Officer Washington, kicked us all off the river tonight and we were forced to watch the fireworks from behind a chain link fence.

The citizens of New Orleans, stood behind a fence, in jail, prevented from access to their own riverfront.

We were prevented from every tradition that is this city and treated like criminals while watching fireworks. They say we are citizens of this city. Are we?

Or are we just part of your plan to take over all beauty that is the 9th ward? Jailed behind fences, treated like criminals, prevented from access to OUR riverfront.

His name, officer Washington in the harbor police, he said we couldn't be there, we were criminals in our neighborhood, during our own traditional celebration.

We stood hundreds strong, watching the fireworks anyway. We celebrated our freedom behind a fence.
